Demonstrable Connection for Board Members

What does HRSA mean when it states that non-patient board members who don’t live or work in the community should have a demonstrable connection to the community. This is in Board Composition, Element C, Question #10.

The definition of demonstrable is “proving/showing you have a connection1”. If a non-patient board member does not live or work in the community, then the health center has to demonstrate/prove and explain how that particular board member has a connection to the health center and service area. It’s important to note that each situation is unique to that particular health center and the HRSA Project Officer should be consulted to determine whether that particular connection would meet the definition of demonstrable.
